Handfasting at Nine Ladies Stone Circle – A Ceremony of Connection, Rhythm, and Sacred Offerings
On the 18th of May, beneath the watchful gaze of ancient stones, I celebrated a deeply symbolic and spiritual handfasting ceremony at Nine Ladies Stone Circle in Derbyshire. This sacred site, rich with history and myth, became the perfect setting for a ritual that wove together tradition, unity, and the primal pulse of drumming—an echo of divine rhythms spanning cultures and centuries. Handfasting is an age-old Celtic tradition, a binding of souls through woven cords that symbolize love, commitment, and the strength of partnership. But on this day, it was more than a ceremony—it was a celebration of harmony between people, nature, and the unseen energies that have resonated through time.

The Resonance of Drumming
Drumming has long been recognized as a bridge between the earthly and the divine. In Hindu traditions, drumbeats call forth gods, guiding rituals and invoking spiritual presence. Instruments like the ḍhol and mridangam set the rhythm for sacred ceremonies, connecting worshippers to higher realms. Here, in the heart of the Derbyshire landscape, drumming pulsed through the gathering like a heartbeat—a reminder of life’s cyclical nature and the power of collective energy.
A Gathering Across  Counties
This handfasting was not only an intimate union but a collective experience, bringing together people from different counties. the couple themselves from england and sweden live in bail Indonseia and their presence in derbyshire combined the hindu tranditiaons with the pagan.
the ceremony was attended by folk from nearby Belper and  Derby and further afield, Oxford , Stroud and Newark. Even further travellers were from Bali, Germany and Denmark.
All brought something greater to the ceremony—an offering of goodwill, love, and shared tradition. As the couples hands were bound with vibrant cords, voices lifted in harmony, and the beat of the drum guided the ritual, it became clear that we were more than individuals witnessing an event—we were a community, bound together in sacred rhythm.
Sacred Offerings to the Stones
To honor the spirit of Nine Ladies Stone Circle, offerings were placed upon the ancient stones—tokens of gratitude, intention, and connection. Colorful bowls, flowers, and symbolic items rested gently on the sacred rock, each holding the energy of those who gave them. These offerings reflected the deep-rooted tradition of leaving gifts for the land, acknowledging its wisdom and protection, as well as gifts for the Hindu gods.In many cultures, offerings serve as bridges between the physical and spiritual realms, a way of showing reverence to the unseen forces that dwell in sacred spaces.

On this day, they became part of the ceremony itself—expressing love, hope, and respect for the place that held our vows.Surrounded by nature’s quiet wisdom and the enduring energy of the stones, this was more than a moment in time—it was a sacred promise woven into the fabric of history.
